KIMONO,
REIMAGINED.
Vintage kimono that have finished their role, re-tailored one at a time by artisans.
Brand
Giving a kimono that has
finished its role, a new life.
It began with a wish: to build a company where women raising children could put their strength to use. We unpick, wash, cut and sew sleeping kurotomesode kimono — one piece at a time, by the hands of women artisans in Fukushima. No two are ever the same.

Craft ── Shirakawa, Fukushima
How one kimono becomes
cloth you can wear.
Sourcing, choosing the pattern, unpicking, washing, cutting, sewing, needle inspection. A local welfare facility unpicks the kimono; a workshop in Shirakawa sews. Avoiding motifs of people and animals, and choosing usable patterns from tonnes of fabric — the most time-consuming step of all.
